Basking Bee and Flying Bee Coin Earrings

£145

Description

The bumblebee coin collection features detailed, textured bumble bees in positive relief.

The bumblebee traditionally represents hard work, dedication and community. The bee coin earrings were designed by Rachel as a reminder that no challenge is insurmountable.

The bee coin earrings are super easy to wear and have lovely, dancing movement due to their earring hook fastening.

If you'd prefer your earrings to match, take a look at the Basking Bee Coin Earrings.

All of our jewellery is lovingly designed and handmade in Rachel's Birmingham studio with help from casters and stone setters in the historic Birmingham Jewellery Quarter.

How is it made?

The bee coin earrings were a natural successor to the Bee Coin Necklace designed back in 2017.

The first bees were CAD modelled in my studio. This process usually take many hours (and lots of head scratching) until I'm happy with how something looks. The model is then 3D printed and revisions are made.

When I'm finally happy with a model a latex mouId is made so I can make multiple identical pieces in precious metal.

Your Bee Coin Earrings are re-created through the process of lost wax casting. The raw castings are is cleaned up, put together buffed and polished in my workshop.

Plated pieces are given a thick coating of 18ct gold by our lovely plater based in the Jewellery Quarter.

Solid gold pieces are hallmarked at the Birmingham Assay office.

Production time

I handmake all of my designs from my workshop in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter.

All of our jewellery is made by Rachel in her workshop in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter in the United Kingdom.

I take a lot of my inspiration from the British summer time so it's important that my jewellery be made here.

I'm so lucky to be surrounded by so many talented casting companies, stone setters, hand engravers and gold platers in Birmingham and I think it's vital that we support them and keep their disciplines alive and available for generations of designers to come.

When you buy a piece of Rachel Whitehead Jewellery you're helping keep the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter the vibrant and vital centre of manufacture that it has been and should remain for years to come.
